Examples of GS-5/FG-5 (Equivalent G Band) Specialized Experience
An Employee at this level works on a limited range of assignments under close supervision. For example:
- Gathers, extracts, checks, and assembles program and/or management information and data, and enters data in proper format.
- Uses standard analytical techniques to resolve issues and/or identify problems relating to programs.
- Collects, analyzes and evaluates operational or administrative information.
Examples of GS-7/FG-7 (Equivalent G Band) Specialized Experience
An Employee at this level works more independently, but is still subject to close review and specific guidelines. For example:
- Maintains statistics and reports on environmental issues to ensure effective use of assets.
- Gathers data and prepares reports on environmental statistics.
Examples of GS-9/FG-9 (Equivalent G Band) Specialized Experience
An Employee at this level works independently with self-direction and requires a
limited amount of supervisory guidance. For example:
- Collaborates with supervisors and managers to resolve specific environmental problems.
- Maintains and updates automated systems for tracking environmental issues.
- Evaluates equipment needs; studies the features of various automated systems; conducts studies related to equipment usage; and determines which systems best meet the needs of the office, and/or are the most cost effective.
Examples of GS-11/FG-11 (Equivalent H Band) Specialized Experience
The Employee at this level works independently with a broad scope of responsibility,
more variety and less clear guidelines. Supervisory oversight generally consists
of review of completed projects to ensure compliance with organizational policies,
or regulations. For example:
- Serves as the office focal point on various environmental studies/activities. Provides staff support to agency managers for environmental related actions.
- Advises managers to change established work methods and practices, and to reduce expenditures to adjust for changes in function, allocations and anticipated shortfalls.
Examples of GS-12/FG-12 (Equivalent H Band) Specialized Experience
Work at this level involves a wide range of assignments, or a few highly complex
assignments, requiring planning and organization, setting priorities, and working
without clear, or specific guidelines. Work is typically reviewed only to assess
impact on overall organizational objectives. Examples of such work include:
- Assists the organization manager in establishing goals and objectives for the organization that would be consistent with agency environmental goals and objectives.
- Serves as an organization's principal environmental expert, and as such, is responsible for the formulation, enactment and execution of environmental studies.
- Serves as the principal environmental advisor to a major organization, advising top managers on procedural and policy matters related to environmental concerns and issues.
Examples of GS-13/FG-13 (Equivalent I Band) Specialized Experience
Work at this level involves performing broad and comprehensive management studies
that often cross functional and/or organizational lines. The work requires analysis
of interrelated issues of effectiveness, efficiency and productivity of substantive
mission-related programs – programs that are often complicated by conflicting program
goals derived from changes in legislation, or changes in demands for program services.
Work is typically reviewed only to assess impact on overall organizational objectives.
Examples of such work include:
- Evaluates the content of new or modified legislation for projected impact upon the agency's environmental programs and resources, and/or translates basic legislation into program goals, actions and services.
- Prepares long-range and short-range planning/resource guidance in accordance with broad agency environmental objectives.
- Develops and recommends improvements for systems and/or processes to improve operational efficiency.
- Works as a contributing specialist on large work activities, or as a project manager, or team leader to large projects/programs/activities.
Examples of GS-14/FG-14 (Equivalent J Band) Specialized Experience
Work at this level typically involves highly complex and challenging activities
under minimal direction of a manager or executive. An assignment typically requires
expert knowledge to develop new and innovative approaches to problems, or issues,
which often cross organizational boundaries and impact the accomplishment of agency
strategic objectives. Guidance is in the form of broad policies, and work is typically
reviewed only at completion for success in achieving planned results. Examples of
such work include:
- Defines and develops internal policies and procedures relating to environmental matters; predicts potential issues and proposes preventative actions.
- Evaluates the impact of long-range environmental program goals and objectives, and political, economic and social consequences of changes in the type, or amount, of agency, or organizational services provided.
- Analyzes requirements and supporting resource allocations to develop an overall system/concept for major agency program activities.
- Provides guidance to less experienced professionals, or leads large projects/teams.
