Examples of F Band (Equivalent GS-5, GS-7, GS-9 / FG-5, FG-7, FG-9)
Performs basic but progressively more complex training assignments under the close direction of a supervisor, team leader, on-the-job (OJT) instructor, or a more experienced employee. Acquires and applies basic technical knowledge and limited experience to accomplish assignments.
- The ability to understand and apply Environmental Theory (e.g., Lighted NAVAids, HVAC, and Electrical).
- The ability to use Voltage Meter for electrical and grounding.
- Able to use schematic diagrams, functional block diagrams and Technical Instruction Books to troubleshoot and maintain Environmental systems.
- Work experience as an Environmental Technician; install, repair, and perform scheduled maintenance on Environmental systems.
Examples for G Band (Equivalent GS-11/FG-11)
Performs multiple and complex assignments under the limited direction of a manager or team leader. Has full maintenance and operational responsibility for a single system or for the integration of multiple subsystems. Works as an individual contributor of a team.
- Knowledge, skill, and ability to perform maintenance and corrective procedures for Environmental systems (e.g., Lighted NAVaids, HVAC, and Electrical).
- Has experience using a Voltage Meter, Amp Probe, Milliohm Meter and other test equipment to troubleshoot an electrical system or Lighted NAVaids.
- Has experience using a refrigerant recovery machine and pressure gauges on HVAC systems.
- The employee, having developed expertise in the line of work, is responsible for planning and carrying out assignments.
- Exercises seasoned judgment, initiative and originality in adapting practical methods and techniques to solve design and operational problems because established criteria and technical precedents are not always available.
- Possess a working knowledge of policies and procedures pertaining to the work environment: Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Facility and Systems Security.
- The ability to resolve most of the conflicts that arise, coordinating the work with others as necessary, and interpreting policy on their own initiative in terms of established objectives.
